چکیده

When runners encounter a sudden bump in the road, they rapidly adjust leg mechanics to keep from falling. New evidence suggests that they may be able to do this without help from the brain.

Biomechanics: Stable Running

Runners need dynamic stability to maintain their gait despite uneven terrain and other disturbances. Research on guinea fowl is providing welcome new insight into how this difficult problem is solved.

Biomechanics and energetics of walking on uneven terrain.

Walking on uneven terrain is more energetically costly than walking on smooth ground, but the biomechanical factors that contribute to this increase are unknown. To identify possible factors, we constructed an uneven terrain treadmill that allowed us to record biomechanical, electromyographic and metabolic energetics data from human subjects. We hypothesized that walking on uneven terrain would...

Balance and recovery on coronally-uneven and unpredictable terrain.

Stepping on coronally-uneven and unpredictable terrain is a common gait disturbance that can lead to injurious falls. This study identified the biomechanical response to a step on coronally-uneven and unpredictable terrain through observation of participants traversing a walkway with a middle step that could be blinded to participants, and positioned either 15° inverted, 15° everted, or flush. ...

Dynamics modeling and stable gait planning of a quadruped robot in walking over uneven terrains

Quadruped robots have unique capabilities for motion over uneven natural environments. This article presents a stable gait for a quadruped robot in such motions and discusses the inverse-dynamics control scheme to follow the planned gait. First, an explicit dynamics model will be developed using a novel constraint elimination method for an 18-DOF quadruped robot. Thereafter, an inverse-dynamics...

Calf Compression Sleeves Change Biomechanics but Not Performance and Physiological Responses in Trail Running

Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine whether calf compression sleeves (CS) affects physiological and biomechanical parameters, exercise performance, and perceived sensations of muscle fatigue, pain and soreness during prolonged (~2 h 30 min) outdoor trail running. Methods: Fourteen healthy trained males took part in a randomized, cross-over study consisting in two identical 24-k...
